Background of the Organization:

SAWAB Foundation has been working as an NGO in Bangladesh since 2015. It is completely a non-government, non-profit and non-political voluntary welfare and development organization and it was established by few enlightened social workers, educationists, teachers and philanthropists. This organization was founded to work for human resource development through education, microfinance, health care and nutrition, environment preservation, income generating activities, etc. for the poor and under privileged portion of the population with specific attention to women and children. SAWAB Foundation devoutly acts to establish a morale based society. Orphan Care, supporting poor and distressed women and children are the main thrust of our special care programs. Besides, SAWAB Foundation is committed to help the destitute people, to make them self-employed, so that they can contribute to the economic development of the country. Bangladesh lies in such geographical location which is vulnerable to natural calamities and man-made disasters. Every year a large number of people are getting added to the extremely poor community. SAWAB Foundation helps and upgrade the lifestyle of this root-bottom community through various initiatives for their economic solvency and secured social life and thereby SAWAB Foundation contributes to the overall development of the country. SAWAB Foundation aims to bring forward the marginal group into the main stream by providing them with income generation opportunities through training, education and knowledge sharing.

The institutional mission of SAWAB Foundation is to develop and empower all persons and communities in situations of poverty, social injustice, ignorance, violence, terrorism, exploitations and all forms of sufferings through broadly promoting education, mutual understanding and collaboration, poverty alleviation, health, skills development and awareness building.

Objectives

SAWAB Foundation moves forward to fulfil the following objectives:

1. To promote formal and non-formal education and literacy for the illiterate children, street connected children, adolescents and adults to eradicate illiteracy from the country

2. To promote youth employment and income generation opportunities for improving the socio-economic condition of the poor and the disadvantaged population by providing different types of technical and vocational skill development training.

3. To develop unity among the poor people through group activities and organize those to work united against the factors that perpetuate poverty.

4. To promote and preserve the natural environment and safe-guard it from pollution and destruction.

5. To promote women’s empowerment and their rights to increase the level of their participation in all areas of life.

6. To promote peace and harmony among different faiths.

7. To promote health and family planning services, mother and child care services and development of community health and nutrition.

8. To promote water and sanitation system both in rural and urban settings.

9. To organize relief and rehabilitation activities in times of natural calamities and disaster, etc.

Target Group

Our targeted groups are the most vulnerable group of the society; be they belong to the ultra-poor community or to the most disadvantaged population of the country. SAWAB Foundation aims to work for the poor and underprivileged portion of the population with specific attention to women and children for their welfare and socio-economic advancement. Further, SAWAB Foundation has an intention to extend its wings to assist any refugee who is displaced and lives in an inhuman condition. In gist the target groups are:

• Deprived Community.

• Orphans and street children.

• Distress women, widows and aged people.

• Poor but lactating and pregnant women.

• Landless and marginal farmers.

• Adolescent boys and girls of urban and rural areas.

• People with special needs (disabled and autistics).

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

SAWAB Foundations activities are geared towards poverty reduction and wellbeing of the target beneficiaries. In identifying the activities, SAWAB Foundation holds dialogues with community people to ensure appropriateness of activities for the beneficiaries. While undertaking different projects, it gives priority on coastal areas, ethnic minority, disabled, widows and children. Working areas of SAWAB Foundation:

SAWAB Foundation Implementing two types of programs: regular long term programs/projects and occasional/seasonal short duration projects. SAWAB cover most of the districts of Bangladesh while serving the humanity:

a. Regular Program Areas: Dhaka, Savar, Manikgong, Kurigram, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Sunamganj, Kushtia, Satkhira, Jessore, Nilaphamari, Thakurgaon, Gaibandha, lalmonirhat, Jamalpur, Meherpur, Chittagong, Bagerhat, Patuakhali, and Cox’s Bazar = 20 Districts

b. Occasional Program Area: All over Bangladesh

Monitoring and Supervision:

SAWAB Foundation has a strong monitoring and evaluation team. For every projects to implement monitoring and supervision is assured by the SAWAB Foundation Monitoring Unit. The Project Implementation Committee supervises and monitors the overall program activities. All the programs are implemented in close cooperation and supervision by the Government administration.

Financial Management of SAWAB Foundation:

Financial Management of SAWAB Foundation is based on the following basic principles

 Inconformity with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

 Incompliance with the law of the financial management

All transaction of the organization is maintained through bank account, which operated, by joint signature of Executive Director and a Member nominated by the EC. Government approved accounting system is followed to operate the financial management. Double entry system is followed regarding maintenance of books of accounts. Accounts of each year is dully be audited by a certified Chartered Accountant and is placed to the General Body of the organization for its approval. There is a provision to open separate bank account for each project as per suggestion of the donor. Monthly financial statement is prepared on regular basis with its relevant bank reconciliation. Immediate steps are being taken if any dispute occurs at the branch level. Internal Audit teams are frequently visits the branch office and keeps close monitoring on the accounts including micro finance operated at the field level.

Organizational Strength:

SAWAB Foundation provides support to the disadvantaged people who are more vulnerable towards Education, WASH, Poverty Alleviation- (Livelihood, Microfinance and Ultra Poor Graduation) Health and Nutrition, Rehabilitation as well as Poverty. It has been working on Targeting Ultra Poor (TUP) program at Savar, Bangladesh focusing on people who are living in ultra-poverty and confronted by a multitude of interconnected and cyclical problems. They have little or no land or productive assets and simultaneously struggle to cope with food shortages, poor health, social stigma, and a lack of basic needs. They are mostly excluded from social services and healthcare, generally live in remote areas disconnected from markets, and are often unable to work due to prolonged illnesses or disability in the family.

SAWAB Foundation has been working in all over Bangladesh with the support of local and international donor agencies through its country wide partners, volunteers and staffs.

Future Plan:

SAWAB Foundation has plans to advance further through implementing both short-term and long-term programs and projects all over Bangladesh, with a special focus to FDMNs (Rohingya Refugees).

a) Expand and strengthen its formal and non-formal education program for Rohingya Refugees and Bangladeshis

b) Establish Technical & Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Centre for developing necessary skills for the unemployed youth Rohingya refugees and the ultra-poor communities of different corner of Bangladesh

c) Develop human resource through organizing capacity building training.

d) Establish Mother and Child Care hospital at Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar to ensure health care services to Rohingya refugees

e) Create awareness and prevent early child marriage of Rohingya girls

f) Help stop sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) for the FDMN and host community through awareness campaign

g) Expand Microfinance, livelihood development and income generating program for the ultra-poor families Bangladeshi community

f) Build life skill based knowledge for the illiterate people men, women and adolescences through organizing training, motivational meetings, workshops and seminars

g) Establish few more mosques and ablution places as well as organize

SAWAB Foundation is contributing to the cause of reducing sufferings of Rohingya refugees and vulnerable Bangladeshis with support from the respective donor agencies.

SAWAB Foundation activities are realized by financial and material supports from magnanimous individuals and donor agencies from home and abroad. Therefore, SAWAB Foundation expresses its sincere gratitude to its valued donors as their contributions enable it to implement various development activities and projects to mitigate the sufferings of the distressed people. Despite tangible steps taken by the government and NGOs in eradicating abject poverty, still poverty continues to be a major challenge in Bangladesh. Scarcity of resources hampers SAWAB Foundation’s efforts to provide necessary support to the target people. With one’s small contribution, SAWAB Foundation can make a big step in poverty alleviation and social development and promotion of tolerance in the society.

Therefore, a fervent humanitarian appeal is made to the well-to-do people of the society to come forward to support SAWAB Foundation activities. Zakat, sadaqah, or other donations can contribute to relieve the sufferings of the poor people in Bangladesh.
