Empowering Healthcare and Nutrition for Vulnerable Communities in Bangladesh

Good health and adequate nutrition are essential pillars of human development. Yet for millions in Bangladesh, both remain out of reach. Poverty, rising healthcare costs, and limited access to nutritious food have left vulnerable communities struggling to survive. In rural and low-income urban areas, children suffer from malnutrition, women face complications during pregnancy due to inadequate diet and care, and families are pushed deeper into poverty by unexpected health expenditures.

Every year, over 6 million people in Bangladesh fall below the poverty line due to out-of-pocket health expenses. Less than 1% of the population is protected by any health insurance scheme. At the same time, chronic malnutrition, especially among children and pregnant women, remains a major public health crisis, leading to stunting, poor learning outcomes, and long-term economic consequences.

To address these urgent challenges, the SAWAB Foundation’s Health and Nutrition Program is working to ensure that no one is denied access to basic healthcare and essential nutrition due to poverty. With the generous support of donors and partners, we provide integrated health and nutrition services to those who need them most.

Key Components of the Program

  • Nutrition Support: Distribution of high-nutrient food packages and supplements for children, pregnant women, and the elderly.
  • Maternal and Child Health: Prenatal and postnatal care combined with maternal nutrition support to reduce complications and ensure healthy births.
  • Health & Nutrition Education: Community awareness campaigns to promote hygiene, disease prevention, breastfeeding, and balanced diets.
  • Partnerships & Support: Collaboration with donors and nutrition-focused organizations to enhance reach and effectiveness.
  • Emergency Aid: Rapid response in times of crisis—providing food, medicine, and clean water during floods, cyclones, or disease outbreaks.
